Create a Concept is a feature to add a conceptual glazing system to your Wall System. This allows you to assess your Wall System against J1.5 Wall-glazing requirements by making some high-level assumptions regarding your Glazing System. Once activated, it changes the unit of assessment from a Total R-value from the Wall System to a Wall-Glazing Total U-value for the Wall-Glazing System.
The steps below will allow you to use the Create a Concept feature when you build a Wall System to the requirements of J 1.5 – Total System R-value for walls (AS/NZS 4859.2:2018) requirements, including thermal bridging (NZS 4214:2006).
Step 1 – Let’s first reuse the Lightweight Cladding (Cavity fixed to 92mm steel frame) Wall System we created in Wall Systems Tutorial 1 – Getting Started.
Step 2 – Using the Create a Concept feature could not be easier. Once you have built a Wall System, click the Create a Concept button at the bottom of the input panel to show additional options.
Step 3 – Next up… simply adjust your glazing wall ratio, assume a window system based on its performance and add some generic shading assumptions for projection and gap.
Step 4 – You can then toggle between Aspects to see any variation in design strategy vs NCC 2019 – Vol 1 requirements.
Step 5 - When your happy, simply click Performance Solution and download your Report. Note, as this is a concept, it is not a completed Performance Solution and thus cannot be used to meet the Performance Requirements of the NCC 2019 – Vol 1 as the specification is incomplete.
