Subframes are the supporting elements at the head and sill of a framing system. As a component of the framing system that has high thermal losses, sub sills are required to be assessed within the NCC 2019 – Vol 1 as per Schedule 3 – Definitions for Glazing and Total System U-Value requirements, ss does the overall system size of the system.
To assess the role that sub-framing and sizing have on the overall performance of a window system, Speckel has enabled subframes to be toggled on and off, defaulting to on to meet the NCC 2019 – Vol 1 requirements.
Step 1 – Let’s first reuse the Fixed Double Glazed 150mm Aluminum - Thermally Broken Glazing System we created in Glazing Systems Tutorial 1 – Getting Started.
Step 2 – Under framing, click the generic frame - Double Glazed 150mm Aluminum - Thermally Broken – and then toggle on and off the sub-framing to see the impact on the Total System U-value performance.
Step 3 – Next up… click on the render of the Glazing System in the middle of the screen to assess the impact of multiple bays and different glazing types on the Total System U-value performance.
Step 4 - When your happy, simply click Performance Solution and download your Report.
