Our Floor System app is calculated using the methodologies outlined in NZS 4214:2006 - Methods of Determining the Total Thermal Resistance of Parts of Buildings and AS/NZS 4859.2:2018 - Thermal insulation materials for buildings (Part 2: Design). Where applicable, our Floor System uses CIBSE Guide A for subfloors, as per J1.6 Floors – Table J 1.6.
While suspended subfloors are more domestic in application than commercial, the following tutorial will assist in identifying how to design and specify them.
Step 1 – Let’s first reuse the Floor System we created in the Floor Systems Tutorial 1 – Getting Started video - Suspended Slab (Internally Insulated).
Step 2 – Jump back to Layouts and select ‘Subfloor (300 mm above ground) – R 1.82’.
Step 3 - Once you have selected the Subfloor (300 mm above ground) – R 1.82, the next step is to add your floor substrate by using the ‘Add Subfloor’ button.
Step 4 – Now, select your preferred Ventilation strategy including Floor Height above Ground, Ventilation Area, Wind Speed and Shielding Factor, etc, to test the sensitivity of these parameters on the Total R-value.
Step 5 - Finish up by clicking on the Performance Solution button, and you can down your NCC 2019 – Vol 1 compliance report.
