A warm-edge spacer is a type of spacer bar used in double-glazed or triple-glazed window products, separating the lites and seals off air cavities. Typically, spacers are made of high conductivity aluminium, while modern, warm edge spacers generally made from vinyl (uPVC) or high-grade steel which have improved thermal insulation properties.
Speckel allows for the adoption of warm-edge spacers on a subset of glazing products. To use warm-edge spacers within the Glazing Systems App, a thermally broken frame and high-performance glazing systems need to be used. Simply toggle to see the result impact of specifying a warm-edge spacer.
Step 1 – Let’s first reuse the Fixed Double Glazed 150mm Aluminum - Thermally Broken Glazing System we created in Glazing Systems Tutorial 1 – Getting Started.
Step 2 – Under framing, click the generic frame - Double Glazed 150mm Aluminum - Thermally Broken – and then navigate to the example specification.
Step 3 – Next up… under the generic glazing - Double Glazed Unit - Double Low-E Coating
( U-value 1.6 / SHGC - 0.35), toggle the arrow to reveal the Warm-edge Spacer toggle. Now, simply select your preferred glazing and warm-edge spacer combination to improve your Glazing System.
Step 4 - When your happy, simply click Performance Solution and download your Report.
