Within the NCC 2019 – Vol 1, the thermal performance of the building envelope is mostly covered by Part J1 – Building Fabric, although energy efficiency is provided indirectly elsewhere in the code.
Part F4 - Light and ventilation and Part F6 - Condensation Management are both excellent examples of provisions set elsewhere within the NCC 2019 – Vol 1 that directly impacts the energy efficiency of a building.
NCC 2019 – Vol 1 has adopted more quantitative measures to meet the Performance Requirements (JP1) in comparison to NCC 2016 – Vol 1 and maintains more explicit goals and objectives.
In regards to the Deemed-to-Satisfy Provisions, the performance of the building envelope is covered by:
- J1.2 Thermal construction — general
- J1.3 Roof and ceiling construction
- J1.4 Roof lights
- J1.5 Walls and glazing
- J1.6 Floors
For those choosing an elemental approach, you can meet JP1 Performance Requirements by meeting the above individually as a Deemed-to-Satisfy Solutions, or you can undertake a Performance Solution such as JV1: NABERS Energy for Offices, JV2: Green Star or JV3: Verification using a reference building.
Speckel makes it easy to get under the hood of the NCC 2019 – Vol 1 2019 changes, whether you’re connecting the dots or looking for answers. We provide Performance Solutions equivalent to Deemed-to-Satisfy Provisions to design and build healthier, safer, more accessible and energy-efficient buildings.
