Curtain walls include both vision and wall areas and all framing elements. As a component of the framing system that has high thermal losses, both vision and wall areas are required to be assessed within the NCC 2019 – Vol 1.
The steps below will allow you to undertaken Performance Solution when you build a Wall-glazing System to the requirements of Specification J1.5a Calculation of U-Value and solar admittance and Specification J1.5b Spandrel panel thermal performance.
Step 1 – Let’s select the Curtain Wall 150mm Aluminum. Next, update this to a generic Curtain Wall 150mm Aluminum - Thermally Enhanced.
Step 2 – Once you have selected the frame in step 1, go ahead and replace the generic glass with a specified option from one of the many suppliers by using the filters to narrow down your options.
Step 3 – Next up… update the generic glass wool with a specified option from one of the many suppliers by using the filters to narrow down your options.
Step 4 - Now, let's adjust the window to wall ratio to assess its impact on spandrel dimensions and meeting the NCC 2019 - Vol 1 requirements. Specific supplier framing options are also going to help.
Step 5 - As usual, the final step is always to produce a Performance Solution.
