Once you have covered the Building Assessment Tutorial 1 - Getting Started, you are ready to start creating zones in the drawing space.
A zone is a thermally independent space within the building, that is either conditioned or unconditioned. Where zones are similar in use, they can be grouped together to simplify the modelling process in concept design.
Step 1 – In Building Assessment Tutorial 1 – Getting Started, you have already set up a Drawing. Let's now set up Zones within the Drawing space and configure them.
Step 2 – Select the Draw Zones tool. Left-click in a space near the Zone previously drawn and drag the mouse to the corner point on that Zone. Continue to create a Zone shape by navigating and clicking on each corner. Finally, click Enter to close the Zone and then name it.
Step 3 – Next, click on the Zone just created, and you will see the Aspects of the Zone within the panel on the right. Each Aspect displays its length, orientation and basic thermal performance information.
Step 4 – Navigate over any Aspect on the panel on the right, and the corresponding location will be identified in the Drawing space. Clicking on the Aspect on the panel on the right will allow editing fabric, local shading and window placement. Don't update these yet but if you do, make sure you click Save each time you change.
